Railway Exhibition

The Blandford Museum Railway Club is holding a celebratory exhibition at the Blandford School on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd September. This commemorates the opening of the Somerset & Dorset Railway extension from Blandford St Mary to Templecombe on 31st August 1863, and should be a wonderful day out for railway and modelling enthusiasts.
Pride of place amongst the exhibits of more than 20 working model railways will be the working 00 gauge model of Blandford Forum Station and environs constructed by the Museum Railway Club members over the last few years as a historically accurate record of the area in the early 1960’s. The Railway Club is part of the Blandford Museum Trust, a registered charity.
There will be approximately 50 exhibitors including model railways N, 00, and 0 gauges, together with many trade stands, historical information, maps, plans, photographic records and documents.  Railway preservation groups will be present, and there will be a comprehensive Railwayana display focusing especially on the Somerset & Dorset Railway and including the original ceremonial barrow and spade used by Lady Smith to cut the first turf at Blandford St Mary in 1856, by courtesy of the Somerset and Dorset Railway Trust.

Venue: The Blandford School Milldown Road, Blandford Forum (use DT11 7SN for Satnav or internet directions). School site is wheelchair friendly.
